About the Association
General Information
The CEU Alumni and Friends Association UK
has over one hundred members living or based in the UK. The vast majority
of the members are non-British, and many are studying or working in the
UK for only a short period. We very much welcome your participation no
matter how short your stay will be!
A Very Brief History
The association has been developing gradually since late
1998, when Alan Renwick, the current UK coordinator, Serge Sych,
the CEU's Budapest-based Alumni Affairs Officer, and several others
started to talk about building an international network of alumni
groups for the CEU. We held our first event in March 1999 in York,
when more than a dozen CEU alumni got together after the OSI's annual
UK conference. This was followed up by a weekend of pubs and restaurants
in Edinburgh that December. In September 2000, the association held
its most successful series of events to date, with three events in
three days in Manchester, London and Oxford. Around thirty alumni
and friends came to the events, the star attraction at each of which
was Serge Sych himself. You can read more information about these
gatherings in our Newsletter.
Local Groups
The Association is now in the process of building up a
network of city-based groups, allowing us to supplement our programme
of national events with more frequent local gatherings. You can find
more information about our local groups on the local
groups page. If you would like to set up your own local group,
please contact Jana Lamb at jana.lamb@com-box.com.
New Members
The alumni association is nothing without its members.
You will automatically go on to our mailing list as soon as we find
out that are living in the UK. If you are in the UK but you think
you are not on our list - or if you will be coming to the UK soon
- all you need do is contact contact Jana Lamb at jana.lamb@com-box.com
a nd you will be kept fully up to date with all our events and other
news. Please contact Alan also if you know of someone who is not a
member but who might be interested in joining.
Visitors to the UK
If you are coming to the UK on holiday, on business or
for any other reason, we would very much like to see you! We strongly
encourage you to contact Jana Lamb
or the relevant local group coordinator before you arrive so that
we can arrange something with you. We can also help you get in touch
with CEU alumni in the UK, and may be able to provide you with some
floor space to crash for the night.
